Jameka wins 2017 The Bmw Group 1 $1.5Million at Rosehill (NSW) 3yo+, 2400m.
Jameka is now a three-time Group One winner after previously taking out the 2015 VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) and 2016 Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m). Ridden well by Hugh Bowman, she travelled well in second place, many lengths behind the free-running leader (Lasqueti Spirit) before improving well at the 600m. She then dashed to the front at the 300m before racing away to win most impressively.
Montoya's Secret wins 2017 Vinery Stud Stakes Group 1 $500,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yoFillies, 2000m.
Victorian-trained filly Montoya's Secret has advanced quickly to score here at Group One level, now winning three races in succession after winning a Pakenham Maiden (1400m) on 2 March. She settled nicely in seventh place on the rails, improved between runners at the 600m, switched to the inner at the 300m, hit the front at the 100m and then held on well to score a narrow but good win.
Jon Snow wins 2017 Tulloch Stakes Group 2 $200,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yoColts & Geldings, 2000m.
Jon Snow made an impressive Australian debut. Having his first run since finishing third in the New Zealand Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) at Ellerslie on 4 March, he enjoyed a good trip behind the leader (My Kind), moved up nicely at the 600m, easily took the lead at the 300m and was not threatened from that point to win decisively in a strong staying effort.
Zanbagh wins 2017 Emancipation Stakes Group 2 $200,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yo+Fillies & Mares, 1500m.
Zanbagh has now won this race two years in succession. Having her third run this preparation, she had a nice trip in fourth place, just behind the leaders before improving (under riding) at the 300m. She lifted to challenge at the 100m and then finished a bit too well to grab a narrow but good win.
All Roads wins 2017 Japan Nz Intl Trophy Group 2 NZ$100,000 at Tauranga (NZ), 1600m.
A big win by the favourite, All Roads , who scored his first victory since last September following promising recent efforts. He and rider Kelly McCulloch steadied early to settle last passing the 1400m. They improved slightly, three wide, at the 1000m but drifted again to be last past the 600m and just prior to straightening. Into the straight McCulloch looked for a way through and found one when a split opened at the 250m, drove through and bounded up to grab the lead at the 150m. From there, they had to stave off a late challenge having just a short neck to spare at the wire.
The Mission wins 2017 The Schweppervescence Group 3 $150,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 2yo, 1400m.
The Mission was a little tardy from barrier four however jockey Corey Brown (a late substitute for an absent Ben Melham) sensed that the pace was not torrid so pushed his mount forward to lead past the 1200m. The colt threw his head about mid way around the bend but Brown soon settled him and they were unpressured prior to straightening. The soft lead meant that Brown was able to wait until the 200m before asking for something extra however those behind were not making any impression and the race was in safe keeping with 50m to run.
Jungle Edge wins 2017 E-Group Security Star Kingdom Group 3 $150,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yo+, 1200m.
Off a last start, close up third in last week's Galaxy (Gr 1, 1100m), favourite Jungle Edge relished the heavy track and gave nothing else a chance with an all-the-way win here. Jockey Kevin Forrester wasted no time from barrier four and they took up the running in the first few strides. Forrester never moved, leading comfortably into the straight then slipping clear inside the 300m and it was all over and they cruised in to win easing down, the six-year-old’s first stakes win.
Assign wins 2017 Neville Sellwood Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 4yo+, 2000m.
Assign put up a solid staying effort in winning here. Having his second run this preparation, he settled nicely back in third place on the rails, behind a good tempo. He got though on the inner on straightening, went to the front nearing the 100m and then proved too strong in the latter stages to score a very good win.
Spectroscope wins 2017 Rydges P’matta Doncaster Prel. Group 3 $150,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yo+, 1500m.
The Godolphin-raced import Spectroscope was ridden quietly by Corey Brown and remained in last place in the eight-horse field until nearing the 600m. He then improved between runners on straightening and sprinted quickly to take the lead at the 200m. He then fought back strongly to record his second impressive win, in as many starts, since coming to Australia.
Coulee wins 2017 Valachi Downs Breeders Stakes Group 3 NZ$80,000 at Riccarton Park (NZ) Fillies & Mares, 1600m.
Top weight and favourite Coulee scored a convincing win here. Under apprentice rider Jacob Lowry, she began as well as any from barrier two but settled third (rail) passing the 1200m. Lowry continued to save ground around the big Riccarton bend but into the straight was presented with a clear run. Drifting out towards the middle of the course, she was not ask for an effort until the 250m and soon after she took over, then outstayed them to the line by a half length.
The Steven Burridge stable continued it's good form last weekend with emerging three-year-old Lim's Ripple saluting on Friday night.
Having notched up four winners two weeks ago, the Burridge stable wasted little time collecting their next winner, with Lim's Ripple justifying his solid market support in the second event.
Our Ivanhowe wins 2017 Ranvet Stakes Group 1 $700,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yo+, 2000m.
Our Ivanhowe scored an impressive first up win. He settled back in second last place in the seven-horse field before commencing his move (wide) nearing the home turn. He responded quickly, took the lead at the 200m and then drew away to win easily.
